Greater Manchester's 2021 Development CLUBS

With a new year comes new beginnings; as an organisation, Elevate Young Minds (EYM) is excited to present a whole host of new projects which continue to support young people through this difficult time with a range of creative, empowering and communal developmental activities which help to engage local youth in Manchester.

Who are we?/What do we stand for?

We are a youth driven organisation, with the empowerment of young people at the heart of what we do. The Coronavirus situation has been difficult for everyone, and with the Government recently announcing cancellation of summer exams it is a difficult time for young people. To continue the development of a number of skills we are introducing four new projects that centre around creating a new generation of local film makers, leaders and scientists, not to mention urban agriculturalists. We are continuing on our mission to act on global issues on a local scale.

What have we done?

As an organisation we have created and hosted a number of activities which have brought together artists, entrepreneurs and leaders from several countries, encouraging a focus on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Portugal, Tanzania, Belgium and the United Kingdom. Our Face Festival combines a number of our activities and includes: the Young Creative Leaders Summit which focuses on fostering skills for sustainable development, the Young Minds Matter Programme which emphasises the importance of understanding mental health and artistry and Anarchy Film Festival which brings together filmmakers from different backgrounds to explore a wide range of global issues.

What are we doing now?

We are continuing to support young people through a number of new groups and societies, which all run free of charge for at least 6 weeks after school. We are hoping to be able to run them offline in accordance with local COVID restrictions, but aware of the uncertainty of the corona virus situation, we have plans to enable us to conduct the programmes digitally if need be. These programmes include:

Black Youth Forum - A Model of United Nations programme designed to enhance black youth understanding and engagement of global politics and diplomacy, as well as developing advanced debating and leadership skills. Open to all ages from 7-21.

Film Club - A society for young filmmakers and enthusiasts who will be provided with an opportunity to upskill technical filmmaking as well as an introduction into key film principles, including storyboarding, sound, equipment and lighting. The programme will also allow participants to be involved in the Anarchy Film Festival. Targeted towards youth between 12-19.

Stem Club - A programme which introduces young people to the opportunities provided by Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Students will make new friends and learn technical and creative skills through practical workshops creating a number of final outcomes. Open to youth between the ages of 7-13.

Harvest - a project in collaboration with Regeneration Centre which focuses on delivering a social space for young people, with an emphasis on young women, to connect, discuss and Harvest. Participants are invited to learn basic agricultural skills to contribute to the regeneration of land surrounding Northward Housing’s Sheridan Court in Monsall.
