To keep Elevate Young Minds clubs operating and free for deprived families. We rely on successful bid writing and the generosity of members, individuals, companies and charitable foundations to help us on delivering free programs to families that can’t afford regular contributions.
As an organisation we are focused on youth empowerment, emphasising the need for diversity and inclusion within leadership and international relations. The forum encourages participation and collaboration to strengthen teamworking skills. It fosters confidence as individuals have to present and argue their ideas, this can influence mindset in a way that moves participants further towards their goals. Attendants will also have the opportunity to meet and engage with other young people to start to grow a network of black youth empowered to create social change.
The programme celebrates STEM's innovation, while also reflecting on creativity of the discipline. It aims to foster a curiosity about how the world works and an enthusiasm to get stuck in. By elevating young people, we provide an opportunity to expand and develop student’s knowledge of STEM, through creating a space which is inclusive, illustrating that it has a place for everyone. By working on their own projects that they can take away, the club serves to inspire an interest in how the world works, showing students that young people have a place in the formulation of creative solutions that have the capabilities to solve the world's greatest challenges.
In response to growing food insecurity and a lack of communal growing spaces, our project simultaneously tackles both by creating an environment that fosters a sense of responsibility but also inspires action. This sustainable space will address a number of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, including: Goal Three (Health and Wellbeing) Goal Eleven, (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and Goal Twelve (Responsible Consumption and Production). Participation in the programme will enable individuals to apply the skills and knowledge they have culminated to address other local challenges they identify.
The importance of art and creativity is a key principle of our work. Film is a powerful tool to reflect on and record the world around us and can be a vehicle for social change. Storytelling provides youth with the ability to create or reinvent a narrative. Through the exploration of the arts in our previous projects we have explored the importance of artistry in relation to mental health. The programme provides a space for active reflection where students can apply their newly gained skills to collaborate with other filmmakers creating pieces which reflect their own reality. In the event the programme is digitised, we are exploring the utilisation of equipment at home to be able to make and record stories through film.
